The law of variable proportions state that as the quantity of one factor is increased, keeping the other factors fixed, the marginal product of that factor will eventually decline. This means that up to the use of a certain amount of variable factor, marginal product of the factor may increase and after a certain stage it starts diminishing.
Assumptions of Law of Variable Proportions:1. Constant State of Technology: First, the state of technology is assumed to be given and unchanged. If there is improvement in the technology, then the marginal product may rise instead of diminishing.
2. Fixed Amount of Other Factors: Secondly, there must be some inputs whose quantity is kept fixed. It is only in this way that we can alter the factor proportions and know its effects on output. The law does not apply if all factors are proportionately varied.3. Possibility of Varying the Factor proportions: Thirdly, the law is based upon the possibility of varying the proportions in which the various factors can be combined to produce a product. The law does not apply if the factors must be used in fixed proportions to yield a product.Behaviour of TP
Stages
Stage name
TP
Range
I
Stage of increasing return
TP increases at an increasing rate till F
From o to point F
II
Stage of diminishing return
Increases at a decreasing rate and attains maximum at H
From F to point H
III
Stage of negative return
TP starts to fall
From H onwards
The whole production phase can be distinguished into three different production stages.
IstStage: Increasing Returns to a FactorThis stages starts from the origin point O and continues till the point of inflexion (F) on the TP curve. During this phase, TP increases at an increasing rate and is also accompanied by rising MP curve. The MP curve attains its maximum point corresponding to the point of inflexion. Throughout this stage, AP continues to rise
IIndStage: Diminishing Returns to a FactorThis stage starts from point F and continues till point H on the TP curve. During this stage, the TP increases but at a decreasing rate and attains its maximum point at H, where it remains constant. On the other hand, the MP curve continues to fall and cuts AP from its maximum point S, where MP equals AP. When TP attains its maximum point, corresponding to it, MP becomes zero. AP, in this stage initially rises, attains its maximum point at S and thereafter starts falling
IIIrdStage: Negative Returns to a FactorThis stage begins from the point H on the TP curve. Throughout this point, TP curve is falling and MP curve is negative. Simultaneously, the AP curve continues to fall and approaches the x-axis (but does not touch it).

Describe the main agents of socialisation

Describe the main agents of socialisation

A number of people who relate to us possess power to socialise us. Such people are called socialisation agents. Some of the main agents of socialisation are as follows:
(i) Parents: They have most direct and significant impact on children's development. Children respond in different ways to parents in different situations. Parents encourage certain behaviours by rewarding them verbally (e.g., praising) or in other tangible ways (e.g., buying chocolates or objects of child's desire). They also discourage certain behaviours through non-approving behaviours. They also arrange to put children in a variety of situations that provide them with a variety of positive experiences, learning opportunities, and challenges. The conditions of life in which parents live (such as poverty, job stress, illness, nature of family) also influence the styles they adopt in socialising children. Grand parental proximity and network of social relationships play considerable role in child socialisation directly or through parental influences.
(ii) School: School is another important socialising agent. Children learn many cognitive skills (such as reading, writing), and social skills (such as ways of behaving with elders and age males, accepting roles, fulfilling responsibilities). They also learn and internalise the norms and rules of society. Several other positive qualities, such as self-initiative, self-control, responsibility, land creativity are encouraged in schools. These qualities make children more self-reliant. A good school can altogether transform a child's personality.
(iii) Peer groups: Friendship provides children good opportunity to be in company of others. It also provides organising various activities (e.g., play) collectively with the members of their own age. Qualities like sharing, trust, mutual understanding, role acceptance and fulfilment develop in interaction with peers. Children also learn to assert their own point of view and accept and adopt to those of others. Development of self identity is greatly facilitated by the peer group. Since communication of children with peer group is direct, process of socialisation is generally smooth.
(iv) Media influences: Today media has become a very influencial agent of socialisation. Children learn about many things from different means of media (such as television, newspapers, cinema). Adolescents and young adults often derive their models from them, particularly from television and cinema. However, there is also a negative aspect. Observing violence on television enhances aggressive behaviour among children. Thus, there is a need to use this agent of socialisation in a better way in order to prevent children from developing undesirable behaviours.

There has been a substantial reduction in global poverty. It has fallen from 28 percent in 1990 to 21 per cent in 2001.
(ii)Regional variation - Although there has been a substantial reduction in global poverty, it is marked with great regional variation. Poverty declined substantially in China and South-East Asian countries as a result of rapid economic growth and massive investment in human resources development. But the pace of reduction of poverty in South Asian countries is very slow.
(iii)Poverty in India - Poverty in India has also declined, but the pace of reduction is very slow.
In this lesson Roosevelt says "All we have to fear is fear itself." Douglas has experienced both the sensation of dying and terror that fear of it can produce. The strong will, hard determination, courage and toil as well as honest labour win over all our terror and fears. The will to live brushes aside all our fears. In reality all our terrors and fears are psychological and the same can be won over.

Jack is a very smart father who has an inventive mind of creating stories. The basic line was the same but there was a little variation. Each story described a creature named Roger. He had to manage his family as two children, a daughter Jo and her brother Bobby. The world up stairs in the house consists of his children Jo and Jack. The downside world consists of his wife Clase who is doing the work of painting. Jack is caught in an ugly situation between the romantic world of telling tales to the children and in real world of helping his wife down stairs - Jack is a mature and seasoned person. Even then he tries to serve all in every possible way through his skills, he is a master mind in satisfying the ego of his children. In the story Roger Skunk is the creation of Jack Skunk is a poor little black animal that smelled very bad whenever he goes to play. He can narrate story with the pace and tone of the occasion. Other animals call him "Stinky Skunk". It feels humiliation and Jo is very unhappy. She feels elated when skunk becomes a good smelling creature. She thinks that Mommy should not hit the wizard but Jack tries to justify what he has done, is the sanctified view. So he has higher level of intelligence than his daughter.

Mechanism: The formation of ethylene and diethyl ether from ethanol and conc. H2SO4 may be explained as follows:(a) Formation of ethene or ethylene:Step 1. Due to the presence of two lone pairs of electrons on oxygen, alcohols act as weak bases. Therefore, they react with strong mineral acids (HCl, H2SO4 etc.) to form oxonium salts.Step 2. The presence of a positive charge on the highly electronegative oxygen atom weakens the C-O bond. Thus, the protonated ethanol readily eliminates a molecule of H2O to form ethyl carbocation. This step is slow and hence is the rate-determining step of the reaction.Step 3. The ethyl carbocation formed in step 2 being a reactive chemical species, readily loses a proton to form the ethene molecule.

We are all living in the modern world. It is full of insecurity, fear, war, worry and stress. We have lost all our peace of mind. We can be butchered within moments. The use of atomic bombs and other fatal ammunition has made our lives like a hell. We do not have safety. The crimes are increasing day by day. There is utter chaos, confusion, fear, trouble terror and umemployment in the society. So the mind of every one has got stuck in the midst of tension and fear. There is so much violence, selfishness, despise and hatred in the world that none is ready to see the other progressing. The affluent nations are trying to overpower the developing and underdeveloped countries. There is constant competition of manufacturing, hoarding and developing dangerous weapons. Thus, the harsh realities of life make our living quite unpleasant and bitter. So we try to overcome them through day-dreaming and wishful thinking like Charley. In the past our ancestors used to lead a free life. They did not need any refuge from reality. Things were pretty, nice and peaceful in those days. But Charley expresses his unhappiness and he wants to escape. So he wanders down into the Third Level. The writer has provided stamp collecting as a means of temporary refuge from reality. We can overcome all these problems through meditation and devising ways to the welfare of mankind.
